He auditioned for chair placement and earned first chair of the first part in the clarinet section, making him the overall section soloist from a total of sixteen high schools! Amazing job, Matthew!

David Padilla & Carson Settimo
Seniors, David Padilla & Carson Settimo received the Governor’s Merit Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded by the governor of the state of Ohio to students who qualify and are in the top 5% of their class. Congratulations, we see all the hard work and dedication you have both put into your education!
Seleste Brinker, Maya Hockney, Micah Molinuevo, Riler Romine, & Ella Woollard
Five CCS students participated in the recent JustWrite Ohio competition. Congratulations to Seleste Brinker, Maya Hockney, Micah Molinuevo, Riler Romine, & Ella Woollard who will all be moving on to the state competition! Seleste Brinker was #15 out of the 40 people in Division 2 (all juniors and seniors), and Ella Woollard was #14 in that same division. Also, Ella Woollard was one of only three Division 2 poetry winners! In addition, we had a few students who wrote the number #1 stories in their rounds, so there is a possibility they could get published in the anthology next year. Great job, Cougars!
Ben Theile
Ben Theile was accepted and participated in NKU’s New Orleans Style Brass Honor Band. This experience is only open to outstanding high school wind and drum players in the tri-state area. The goal of this workshop is to promote an important part of the history of American music. The workshop involved many hours of rehearsal and several hours of lectures, followed by a finale concert. He did a fantastic job!
Hadassah Romine, Caleb Wilch, & Laura Caplinger
Membean, an individualized, interactive vocabulary program, hosts annual national competitions. Last month they had a “Pseudoword” competition where students were challenged to use prefixes, roots, and suffixes to create their own “pseudoword” or fake word. They had to define their pseudoword and use it in a sentence as well.
Three of our freshmen, Hadassah Romine, Caleb Wilch, and Laura Caplinger, worked together to create “precentiphobia.” Their word means the fear of numbers less than one hundred. Not only did they place in the top 10, but they won 2nd place out of all the 9th-12th grade submissions, winning a $200 Amazon gift card! Congratulations!
Abigail Mathews
Each spring, 10,000 high school sophomores from across the country join one of HOBY’s 70 State Leadership Seminars to hone their leadership talents and apply them to become effective, ethical leaders in their homes, schools, workplaces, and communities. Their leadership programs are designed to prepare students to turn their ideas and goals into reality. Each program adheres to the five core HOBY values: Volunteerism, Integrity, Excellence, Diversity, and Community Partnership.
Congratulations to Abigail Mathews, for this year’s HOBY nomination from Cincinnati Christian Schools. Abigail wrote an outstanding essay on the importance of leadership. Thank you for reflecting Jesus in all you do!
