The Gary Rice Award

The Gary Rice Award, inspired by Micah 6:8,

“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”

honors a staff member who faithfully embodies Christlike character and a deep commitment to Christian education. This award recognizes an individual whose life and leadership reflect a pursuit of justice, a spirit of genuine kindness, and a humble walk with the Lord. Through both word and example, the recipient demonstrates a heart devoted to serving students, strengthening the school community, and advancing the mission of Christ-centered education.

We are proud to announce Ed Wilburn as the 2025–2026 Gary Rice Award recipient. A Cincinnati native, Ed has faithfully served the CCS community since joining the school in 2000. He and his wife, Denise, have been married for 26 years and are blessed with five children, eighteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Ed demonstrates Christlike character through his servant’s heart and faithful dedication to the CCS community. Known for always going above and beyond, he consistently meets the needs of the school and those around him with humility and kindness. Whether driving a bus, fixing what is broken, building what is needed, or simply offering encouragement, Ed serves with quiet faithfulness and a genuine love for people. He works tirelessly in every season and circumstance, modeling a Christ-centered work ethic and a life devoted to serving others. Through his example, Ed shows students and colleagues alike what it truly means to walk humbly with God and to live out one’s faith each day. For these reasons and more, CCS is honored to recognize Ed Wilburn with the Gary Rice Award.
